Mirror Project
Lt. McNeil and Sgt. Eaton
The Mirror Project is taught by both Lt. McNeil and Sgt. Eaton. The purpose of the project is to foster a positive relationship between the police and youths of the community. The project addresses both expectations that the police have for young adults, as well as expectations the police should follow to maintain a positive relationship with the young adults of the community. Lt. McNeil and Sgt. Eaton attended a 2 day/16 hour training course on the project in order to be able to teach it to students.
The program follows a PowerPoint presentation with included videos, several discussion points and even a role reversal where students from the class can act as officers during a mock police call.
Lt. McNeil and Sgt. Eaton have been teaching the prestation at Nottingham Elementary School to the 8th grade classes since 2022. This is taught once annually, normally in the springtime.
The Mirror Project has been an enjoyable experience for the department and has also been an effective tool to be able to positively connect with the youths of Nottingham’s community.
